While looking at linen options for our own upcoming wedding rehearsal dinner, I found several great vendors online that have come with generally positive reviews. However, I noticed that their sage color options, as they are listed, didn’t seem like they were really comparable. So I opted to order a handful of samples. Napkins are great for this because they are small and inexpensive, you don’t have to invest a great deal of money to get a good sample of the companies products, and the napkins will generally match the corresponding table clothes, etc.
As you can see from our samples, the colors are very different. The four on the right are all from one vendor, the two on the left are from a different one. The latter two are not what I would call sage at all, more of a lime, or chartreuse green maybe.
Knowing the difference in the colors it was then just a matter of selecting the fabric we liked, and not having to stress about the color.
One more tip. When ordering linens, try and order all your linens of the same color at the same time. This will allow the vendor to try and match the dye lots more carefully while pulling your order. Sometimes even the same color from the same company can have slight shading differences, due to different dye lots having small differences. Ordering in multiple batches, when ordering the same color, will almost guarantee you mismatched lots and items that don’t match as well.
